CIRCE boosts Artificial Intelligence in REEFLEX to transform energy management

The energy transition in Europe requires innovative solutions that enable consumers to take a more active role in managing their energy consumption and production. In this context, CIRCE, a leading technology center in energy and sustainability, plays a key role in REEFLEX, an ambitious project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe program.

In REEFLEX, the technology center leads the design of digital solutions based on artificial intelligence and blockchain that will enable citizens, companies and communities to manage their energy consumption and production more efficiently and cost-effectively. In this way, CIRCE will make its experience in demand management available to the project and will lay the foundations to ensure a more accessible, transparent and flexible energy market.

REEFLEX: More control and opportunity for consumers

REEFLEX was created in response to the need to transform the European energy market. Its objective is to create an open platform that allows any user to sell, exchange or buy energy in a simple way.

• This platform will be powered by automated and predictive systems and consumers will be able to:
• Forecast how much energy they can contribute to the system and at what price.
• Identify the most convenient market to maximize profits.
• Optimize their energy consumption in an efficient and automated way.
• Access a central platform that connects all these tools.

The project involves 25 organizations from across Europe, including technology centers, energy companies, public administrations and local communities. Together, they will work to bring these solutions to market, but first they will be tested in demonstrators in Spain, Greece, Switzerland and Bulgaria. They will then be replicated in Denmark, Turkey and Portugal to assess their impact in different environments.

What is REEFLEX's ambition?

The project aims to develop a set of interoperable solutions to increase consumer participation in energy flexibility markets. It is based on several strategic objectives:

1. Develop a catalog of energy flexibility services applicable to different types of consumers, integrating artificial intelligence and automation tools to maximize efficiency and control over energy demand.
2. Create a central platform and a digital energy market that connects all actors in the system, simplifying their access to flexibility markets and reducing barriers to entry.
3. Unify technical, environmental, economic and social criteria to ensure a sustainable energy transition, addressing key issues such as data privacy and cybersecurity.
4. Classify and optimize the grid's energy assets according to their flexibility potential, incorporating interoperability criteria that enable their best use.
5. Explore the potential for replication of solutions in different regulatory and technical contexts to facilitate their adoption across Europe.
6. Develop business models and exploitation strategies that guarantee the continuity and scalability of the solutions after the end of the project.

An energy future closer to people

Thanks to projects such as REEFLEX and the work of entities such as CIRCE, the future of energy in Europe will be more accessible, transparent and efficient. Digitalization and market flexibility will allow citizens to save, generate income and actively contribute to the energy transition.
