Efficient supermarkets: tools and innovations
Madrid will host the event ‘Efficient Supermarkets: Tools and Innovations’ on October 23rd, organized by CIRCE. The event is part of the activities of the SUPERSMART project, funded by the European Commission, which aims to accelerate the adoption of more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions in supermarkets.
The objective is to present the latest technological advancements related to improving energy efficiency in supermarkets and to seek new opportunities and synergies among industry stakeholders. The conference will feature participation from research centers such as the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), the Center for Energy, Environmental, and Technological Research (CIEMAT), and CIRCE itself, as well as companies specializing in refrigeration systems (INTARCON, EXKAL), air conditioning (TROX), and lighting (PHILIPS).
The Association of Spanish Supermarket Chains (ACES) will also participate, representing the sector, along with other entities such as Deloitte. Thanks to this variety of participants, both technical and non-technical, regulatory, and economic barriers that limit the adoption of new energy efficiency solutions in supermarkets will be addressed. Additionally, the event will cover funding opportunities offered by the European H2020 program and support for R&D projects within the sector.
The Spanish Office for Climate Change, part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food, and Environmental Transition, will delve into the PIMA FRÍO plan for implementing refrigeration systems based on alternative technologies, approved last September. These grants are available to commercial distribution establishments that wish to implement more sustainable refrigeration systems.
The event will highlight innovative solutions for reducing energy consumption, showcasing success stories presented by various manufacturers and supermarkets. Topics will include equipment in these establishments, barriers to energy efficiency in supermarkets, energy management systems, and financing models. The event will conclude with roundtable discussions where attendees can exchange knowledge and perspectives with the speakers.
Training program for supermarkets
To improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector, SUPERSMART partners have developed a training program aimed at technicians in supermarket chains and food establishments. Comprising seven modules, the program thoroughly addresses all aspects related to improving energy efficiency in supermarkets and develops the criteria for an Eco-Label for supermarkets at the European level. The program and training materials are offered free of charge until the end of 2018. For more information, contact CIRCE at supersmart@fcirce.es.
