POWER4BIO launches a tool to implement competitive bioeconomy strategies in Europe in the short term

The project has developed a catalog of mature technologies and business models, organized training programs for regional stakeholders, and built new bridges to facilitate collaboration between regions.

The bioeconomy is a rapidly developing sector with great potential to promote rural development, a production system independent of fossil resources, and quality employment. However, there are still European regions that are not fully leveraging the potential of their environment to create sustainable alternative products.

To help these regions transition to a bioeconomy and implement solid, sustainable, and competitive strategies, the POWER4BIO project, led by CIRCE from Spain and funded with €3 million by the European Commission through the H2020 program, is launching a set of tools, instruments, and guidance to develop and implement the most suitable strategies and solutions for the development of their local bioeconomy.

These tools are the result of the intensive work of 17 partners from Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic, Belgium, and Slovakia over more than two years. They bring together a catalog of mature technologies and business models, the creation of regional bioeconomy hubs, new bridges to facilitate interregional collaboration, training programs for regional stakeholders, and the so-called Bio-Regional Strategy Acceleration Tools.

The latter, defined and overseen by CIRCE, consist of an online platform that presents methodologies and roadmaps to guide regional decision-makers in revising or developing bioeconomic strategies. The tool also allows direct access to available roadmaps and the ability to download them.

Final event and presentation of results

All the final results of the POWER4BIO project will be presented on March 5 during the Bioeconomy Innovation Week. This virtual conference, organized by the project, will be held from March 3 to 5 to discuss the potential of the bioeconomy in Central and Eastern Europe.

The event will feature all project partners and entities from various sectors within the bioeconomy (policymakers, representatives of the European Commission, and the scientific community). Among them, Ignacio Martín, the project coordinator and researcher at CIRCE, will present the Bio-Regional Strategy Acceleration Tools, a significant step towards ensuring the successful implementation of the bioeconomy in Europe.
