CIRCE's bi-directional chargers, awarded at the GO!ODS Awards

Sustainable development is becoming increasingly relevant in Spain, where society and organisations are adopting a more conscious and committed approach to environmental protection and social well-being. This trend is clearly reflected in the go!ODS Awards, organised by the UN Global Compact Spain and the Rafael del Pino Foundation, which have just celebrated the award ceremony of their IV edition.

For the second consecutive year, CIRCE-Technological Centre has been present at these awards. On this occasion, accompanying ACCIONA Energy, which has won the award for "Objective 7, Affordable and non-polluting energy", for the "V2G Balearic Islands" project, which is the first bidirectional electric vehicle charging network in Spain. A project in which CIRCE has developed the bidirectional chargers installed.

The 'V2G Balearic Islands' project started in 2022 with the implementation of the first industrial-scale bidirectional electric vehicle charging network in Spain. This technology allows the battery of an electric car to use the stored energy to power its traction, but also to inject it into self-consumption systems or return it to the grid. The battery can function as a consumer or supplier, depending on the parameters established, such as the level of demand, the price of electricity or the technical conditions of the grid at any given time. In this way, the project demonstrates the usefulness of Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology for integrating mobility with the electricity system. This method makes it possible to recover the energy stored in the vehicle for self-consumption or to inject it into the grid to improve its stability.

"This new recognition demonstrates our firm commitment to technological development in the field of energy and the environment", said CIRCE's CEO, Andrés Llombart, during the awards ceremony.

The SHIP2FAIR project, coordinated by CIRCE, winner of the same SDG in 2023.

In the last edition of the awards, CIRCE - Technology Centre was recognised for its contribution to the same SDG 7, for the SHIP2FAIR project and the promotion of the use of solar thermal energy to decarbonise the European agri-food industry.

The agri-food sector is one of the sectors with the greatest economic impact (in Spain, it contributes 5.4% of GDP) but also environmental, being responsible for 27% of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Ship2Fair's main objective is to reduce these CO2 emissions by integrating solar thermal energy solutions in the industrial processes of the agri-food sector.

The go!SDG Awards aim to recognise and support innovative projects that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The go!SDG Awards, organised by the UN Global Compact and the Rafael del Pino Foundation, aim to recognise and support innovative projects that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, these awards seek to inspire the Spanish private sector in their achievement, encouraging cross-sectoral collaboration and dialogue. As in previous editions, the jury has awarded 17 prizes, one for each SDG, from among the more than 506 nominations registered throughout the registration process.
