The Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs) continue to establish themselves as a key tool to promote energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This system, also known as "white certificates" internationally, evolves in 2025 with important updates to expand its impact and benefits.
The CAE System's trajectory in 2023 and 2024
Since the CAE System came into effect in November 2023, more than 196,000 MWh/year of savings have already been requested, which translates to approximately 1,960,000 euros. Do you know what this figure represents? According to MITECO, it corresponds to the consumption of about 60,000 households.
The Energy Savings Certificates system continues to grow as, according to the same source, a total of 35 companies have been accredited to be delegated entities, meaning the legal entities that can obtain energy savings.
The promising future of Energy Savings Certificates
The new Order introduces significant changes aimed at expanding the scope and effectiveness of the Certificates:
- Increase in market volume: A considerable growth in the number of available certificates is expected, facilitating greater participation by companies and expanding investment opportunities in energy efficiency.
- A 25% increase in the number of certificates issued in 2025 is anticipated, allowing the participation of 50 more companies.
- Increase in the economic value of certificates: The economic value of CAEs is rising, encouraging more ambitious projects and promoting the adoption of advanced technologies.
- The financial equivalence per ktep will increase from 2 million euros to 2.2 million euros.
- Expansion of the catalog of eligible measures: The new catalog includes advanced technological solutions such as intelligent monitoring systems and real-time energy management tools. These measures are designed to drive energy savings in strategic sectors like industry and services.
- 62 new entries have been added to the catalog.
These innovations reinforce the commitment of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to the European Union's climate and energy goals, offering a more efficient and flexible system for businesses.
Success story: the Aragonese company that optimized its energy consumption.

One of our recent successes was supporting a leading company in the agro-industrial sector. With this company, we started a project to improve their thermal systems, focusing on three objectives:
- Recovery of heat from exhaust gases
- Recovery of heat from outlet gases in atomizers
- Dryer insulation
Results obtained:
- Energy savings of 1,029,451(kWh/year)
- Economic savings of 46,668 €
- CAEs monetization equivalent to 113,240 €
Therefore, with the energy monitoring and optimization project, the Aragonese company achieved an economic return of 93,293€*. An investment that, without the contribution of CAEs, would have resulted in a negative economic return.
