Description and objectives
uP_running incorporates a set of direct actions aimed at changing the sector's perception on the reduction of the current immobility of the actors in the value chain for the use of woody biomass from agricultural pruning and plantation cleaning.
An intensive communication and awareness-raising campaign will be carried out, aimed at the various target audiences, with adapted messages and materials. Regulatory barriers and the legal framework will also be addressed through direct support to administrations at national and European level.
Then, a “snowball effect” is expected to be achieved through multiplicative and dissemination actions.
- Firstly, through the creation of a permanent capacity in Europe to provide decision support to the various stakeholders.
- Secondly, the new capacity will be implemented in 7 EU countries (4 countries in a first stage, to be extended to 3 others in a second stage) to promote the decision making of businessmen and entrepreneurs.
Contribute to the development of the use, for energy purposes, of residues from agricultural pruning and plantation cleaning (APPR) in vineyards, olive and fruit trees. The ultimate goal is to address the immobility that exists among the actors of the value chain for the use of wood biomass from APPR.
To this end, uP_running incorporates a series of specific actions aimed at changing the perception of this sector, showcasing success stories and models to follow, as well as promoting the take-off of the use of biomass waste APPR.
The uP_running project aims to unlock the potential of biomass-woody waste in Europe, from olive and fruit trees, produced in agricultural pruning and plantation cleaning (APPR), in order to promote its use as a source of clean energy.
Value proposition
The project has the following specific objectives:
- To create tools for industry and legislative bodies to establish instruments that will overcome existing barriers in the bioenergy sector regarding the use of these residues.
- To show real evidence that APPR residual woody biomass is viable and can contribute to increase the competitiveness of farms, and reduce their environmental impacts.
- To create a permanent consulting capacity to support the decision making of the different stakeholders.
- Promote future self-deployment in the use of APPR biomass to reach a utilization ratio of 50% by 2030.
