Description and objectives

The SUCELLOG (Successful Logistics) project focuses on a virtually unexploited concept of biomass logistics: the implementation of biomass logistics centers in the agri-food industry. This new line of business may represent a complement to its usual activities, highlighting the enormous synergies that exist between the agro-economy and the bio-economy.

Certain agri-food industries such as fodder dehydrators, cereal dryers or olive oil mills have equipment compatible with the production of solid biofuels (pelletizers, dryers, silos, conveyor belts) and operate in most cases on a seasonal basis. These facilities can be used during idle periods to condition biomass, obtained mainly from agricultural residues, and convert it into quality solid biofuels to be introduced on the market.

SUCELLOG will support the creation of logistics centers in agro-industries, filling the knowledge gap they face when they are about to start this new activity. Additionally, advice will be provided to other agro-industries interested in becoming logistics centers for solid biofuels.

Both activities will be implemented through the regional and national agricultural associations to which these beneficiaries belong, generating in them a new capacity to support their partners and thus ensuring the replicability of the project concept beyond its completion.

Value proposition

The main objective of SUCELLOG is to promote the participation of the agricultural sector in the sustainable supply of solid biofuels in Europe, through the achievement of the following specific objectives:

  • To foster agribusiness entrepreneurship through the creation of 4 logistics centers in agri-food industries in Spain, France, Italy and Austria. In addition, 10 agro-industries per country will be subject to a feasibility analysis as part of an audit service.
  • Create the capacity to advise agro-industries in this new line of business in regional and national agricultural associations in 7 European countries.
  • Promote the partnership between the agricultural sector and the different actors in the biomass value chain.
