Description and objectives

Throughout the project, a portfolio of 3 type solutions (SIRVES) will be developed depending on the number of vehicles to be served:

  1. Individual installation: unitary recharging points for fast charging of electric vehicles, both in parking spaces and on public roads, company or private facilities.
  2. Medium-sized installation: small-sized parking lots (between 10 and 20 spaces), very common in company parking lots or vehicle fleets.
  3. Large-sized facility: large open-air parking lots such as those at shopping centers, airports or highway and freeway rest areas.

The operation of each of the proposed type installations will be demonstrated through the construction of two pilot SIRVEs that will allow the study of all types of operation and configurations that may arise during the course of the project.

These two pilot demonstrators will be located at:

  • CIRCE Foundation, at the Río Ebro Campus of the University of Zaragoza: individual installation for a single parking space.
  • El Portazgo service station, belonging to the company Zoilo Ríos: multipoint EV charging installation.

For each of the standard solutions, a configuration adapted to the target scenario will be proposed, which will include:

  • Fast charging of EVs in direct current (50 kW), moderate charging in alternating current (22 kW) and slow charging in alternating current (3.7 kW).
  • Distributed generation (PV or wind) taking advantage of the parking structure itself and integrating with it.
  • State-of-the-art electrical storage systems such as lithium batteries or supercapacitors.
  • Intelligent lighting system based on high efficiency LED technology.

The interconnection of the elements will be done through a DC Micro Grid, which depending on the chosen configuration may have one or more connections to the general grid, as well as allowing isolated operation under certain conditions.

Based on the demonstration, monitoring and measurement collection campaign, the appropriate modifications will be made so that they can be industrialized in a simple way, guaranteeing their reliability and safety.

Value proposition

The main objective of the SIRVE Project is the development and demonstration of a portfolio of solutions for electric vehicle charging that integrate storage systems, distributed generation and an intelligent lighting system.

Through this portfolio of solutions, SIRVE intends to cover a series of application areas ranging from individual EV fast charging installations to complete parking lots combining fast DC charging with slow or moderate AC charging. As a result of the project, the aim is to industrialize and bring to market the set of solutions proposed for electric vehicle charging and to configure different product ranges depending on the target market price and their functionalities.

CIRCE will be in charge of the development of the microgrid models and control systems of the SIRVEs, including also the dimensioning of the installations and the development of their electrical components (converters, storage, power generation, etc.).

Once the pilots have been built, CIRCE will carry out a supply quality measurement campaign in order to evaluate the grid parameters in these demonstrators.

CIRCE will also contribute to a large number of the tasks to be developed during the project, such as the characterization and definition of the project scenarios, the analysis of the technical and economic feasibility of the configurations, or the modeling and scaling of the SIRVEs.
