Description and objectives
NEUTRALPATH seeks to demonstrate the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of Positive Clean Energy Districts (PCEDs) as key solutions for the transformation of cities towards climate neutrality. Lighthouse cities, such as Dresden and Zaragoza, will act as models for the design, implementation and evaluation of 2 PCEDs.
Both cities will establish Climate Neutral LABs as Innovation Hubs to drive replicability at the EU level, with Istanbul, Ghent and Vantaa directly participating and then leading their own PCEDs. NEUTRALPATH, with a consortium of 30 participants from 7 countries, will collaborate with the Cities Mission Platform and other EU initiatives to contribute to climate goals. This multidisciplinary approach will allow testing PCEDs on a large scale and facilitate their replication, especially through the 17 industrial partners.
Value proposition
- Coordination and Facilitation of Co-Creation in PCED-Labs: CIRCE plays a key role in coordinating and facilitating the co-creation process in PCED-Labs. We facilitate the participation of citizens, researchers, policy makers, companies and investors to enhance ownership of NEUTRALPATH actions by stakeholders and citizens.
- Leadership in PCED Design and Financial Plan: CDesign of the PCED, the financial plan and its implementation in the LHs. We take care of detailed technical specifications for retrofit or new construction activities, energy systems, storage solutions and electromobility. Furthermore we developed an implementation roadmap for Zaragoza and Dresden.
- Involvement in Life Cycle and Cost Assessment: Life Cycle Plans (LCA and LCC). We set up an evaluation framework and identified KPIs for PCED, contributing to the comprehensive and sustainable evaluation of the project.
- Driving Local Implementation Strategies: CIRCE drives local implementation strategies in Zaragoza and Dresden, identifying detailed implementation plans for specific activities carried out by local ecosystems.
