Description and objectives

Large amounts of waste heat are often wasted in industry. Most of this heat, however, is of low quality and has no practical or economical recovery with current technologies.

The Indus3Es project will develop an innovative Heat Absorption System (AHT) for this very purpose, focused on the recovery of low temperature waste heat (below 130ºC). The Indus3Es system will effectively recover and revalorize around 50% of this heat, increasing the quality of the waste source to the required temperature and reusing it back into the industrial process.

The system will be defined and optimized for different specification of different sectors and industrial processes, for which a scaling up of the technology demonstration and replication studies will be carried out.

Market potential assessment and business analysis will be carried out by industrial partners in order to ensure an appropriate exploitation of the results in the short term.

Value proposition

The main objective of the project is to develop and demonstrate an innovative system to recover and valorize low energy waste heat from industrial processes.

The developed system will be easily adaptable to various processes and sources in new or existing industries. The system will be demonstrated in a real scenario, allowing to analyze, in addition to the integration details, aspects related to the business model and its operation.

The new system will be based on heat absorption technologies (AHT), and will allow a 20% reduction in process heat demand.

In addition to the associated energy, it will also reduce the impact of products and production costs, thereby increasing the competitiveness of European products.

CIRCE will perform a thermo-economic analysis to support the development of a tool to improve process resource efficiency. This tool will include the measurement of an exergy indicator to establish and compare the process performance of different industries.

CIRCE; in close collaboration with the industry, will provide a study of the potential for energy improvement of processes, allowing to increase energy efficiency and knowledge of the current problems in relation to energy consumption in intensive industries.

CIRCE will also develop the market analysis and public acceptance of the new technologies developed by the project.
