Description and objectives
The scope of IdEAS in terms of knowledge development involves the development and demonstration of the IEC 61850 standard with the objective of achieving interoperability and interchangeability of SICP (Integrated Control and Protection Systems) equipment in electrical substations through scientific and technological research.
According to this approach, the IdEAS project will orient its technical development activities towards:
- The design and development of an IEC 61850 compliant, interoperable electrical substation control and protection system with the objective of IED (intelligent electronic devices) interchangeability.
- The enhancement of the functional and communication capabilities of electrical substations.
- A comprehensive, thoughtful and feasible implementation of IEC 61850.
- The enhancement of interoperability between electrical substation control and protection equipment.
IdEAS establishes a pioneering contribution to the field of electrical distribution, since all the effort and investment required for the design, integration and validation work associated with such a renovation is included in this action.
The distributor/network operator will obtain greater capacity to manage its assets through freedom of choice of manufacturer, thus reducing its dependence on the market and increasing its competitiveness.
The overall objective of the project is to develop and demonstrate a complete HV/MV substation solution incorporating IEC 61850 in its Integrated Control and Protection System.
The developments will cover all the lines associated with a new automation system: specification of interoperability profiles, both functional (adaptation of existing features and incorporation of new ones) and equipment (with validation and adaptation in CIRCE's I2SET laboratory to be tested in the field).
The rest of the fronts involved in an initiative of this type are not left aside: configurations, logics, design of the communications network, integration with telecontrol elements, introduction of new tools, etc.
Value proposition
CIRCE will participate with the rest of the partners in:
- Definition of business and user requirements to achieve interoperability.
- Definition of information profiles
- Validation of substation functionalities
- Economic evaluation
In addition, he will play a key role in the following technical activities:
- Definition of the architecture of the networks involved in the project, as well as the detailed specifications of their equipment.
- Laboratory testing and development, evaluating the control and protection equipment, as well as the new SICP equipment. Integration of these components into the system and evaluation of the new functionalities.
- Deployment and field tests installing in a real substation, a line cabinet, a transformer cabinet and the control system.
