Description and objectives

The Spanish Technological Platform for Electricity Networks - FutuRed was created with the purpose of integrating all the agents involved in the electricity sector, in order to define and promote common strategies at national level that allow the consolidation of a much more advanced network, capable of responding to the challenges of the future. Some of the most outstanding activities that the platform has carried out in recent years have been:

  • Develop the vision document for Smart-Grids in Spain. This document, published in 2012, reflects the vision of the electricity sector for the year 2030 and is constantly being updated and revised.
  • Develop a roadmap on the technological development of Smart-Grids, which contributes to making the vision document a reality. The first agenda was
  • Develop a document on the impact of Smart-Grids in Spain. This document, published in 2013, seeks to quantify the economic, social and environmental impact of the development of Smart-Grids at national level in the industrial field.
  • FutuRed has contributed to the national prioritization of energy technologies, which have been requested by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Ministry of Industry, and aims to assess which are the most interesting technologies for the future of national industry and energy.
  • The platform promotes collaboration between national agents in the R&D sector to achieve collaborative projects, shaping the established roadmap. Among other activities, this is carried out through the realization of thematic workshops.

Value proposition

The main objectives of the platform are as follows:

  • Collaborate with companies in the Spanish electricity sector so that they can develop new products and services based on technology and innovation, in the new energy supply scenario.
  • Cooperate with the competent bodies in the development of the Spanish electricity regulatory framework, which promotes and facilitates the development of the electricity system.
  • Strengthen cooperation in R&D between electricity companies and their suppliers of goods and services, especially SMEs, research centers and universities.
  • Collaborate with institutions and social agents in training plans and in the dissemination of good practices for the rational and sustainable use of electricity.
