Description and objectives

FLEXCoop presents the complete framework for automated Demand Response (DR) optimization.

The optimization in FLEXCoop will address multiple levels: local energy production, demand and storage flexibility, as well as the flexibility offered by electric vehicles to facilitate the maximum integration of renewable sources into the grid, avoiding constraints and meeting the needs of the grid.

Thanks to Flexcoop, users will become an active part of the grid.

With the new energy consumption flexibility scheme, they will be able to save energy and benefit from better prices, discounts and access to objective remuneration systems for their contribution to the electricity grid.

As for energy service companies, the project will develop new business models, allowing energy cooperatives to create new innovative services for prosumers and enter the energy markets as aggregators.

Value proposition

FLEXcoop aims to develop the necessary tools to provide users with greater flexibility when consuming energy, and energy service companies with new business models. This objective is materialized in the following specific objectives:

  • Ensure the reliability of the distribution grid, as well as the transition to a fossil fuel-free energy future through automated active demand management strategies based on the use of aggregated flexibility.
  • Improve smart home systems through the integration of optimized Demand Response equipment, the use of ICT, and innovative services for prosumers.
  • Democratize energy markets, through the introduction of residential prosumers as active subjects in the energy markets, and greater transparency of the benefits achieved by all stakeholders.
  • Offer a modular solution based on open standards that ensures continuous interoperability between smart grids, energy management systems and smart home devices, and has a high potential for replication across the EU.
  • Address the main market entry barriers for prosumers with the introduction of suitable business models for energy cooperatives.
  • Promote the adoption of FLEXCoop solutions as the new generation active demand management framework, through intensive dissemination and transfer of project results.
