Description and objectives

CORALIS, a demonstration project, addresses obstacles in Industrial Symbiosis (IS) by considering technical, managerial and economic factors. It defines the IS maturity level, crucial for assessing its viability. Develops a framework for evaluating results and impact, integrated into a virtual platform for industrial parks. Implemented in three parks, each with an IS facilitator.

Three other parks will replicate the results. The main objective is to decarbonize value chains in intensive sectors through IS. Specific objectives include deepening IS performance factors, promoting project design and management with IS enablers, improving profitability and sustainability of symbiotic interactions, implementing symbiotic value chains in three industrial areas, providing technical and management advice, and raising awareness of IS potential.

The project will lay the foundation for exploiting the potential of IS in the EU process industry.

Value proposition

  • Tools and Methods for IS Process Assessment and Tracking: Development of specific tools and methodologies to assess and track IS processes and cases. This involves the creation of improved approaches for feasibility analysis and continuous monitoring of IS cases.
  • Baseline and Use Case Characterization: Performing detailed characterization of the project baseline and use cases. This approach aims to understand and define the current status of the CORALIS demonstrators, covering technical, economic and management aspects. This information serves as a key reference for project evaluation and improvement.
  • Leading Role in Specific Demonstrators: CIRCE plays a crucial role as the main Research and Technology Organization supporting both the Escombreras Valley demonstrator and the Basauri follower. This involves providing the technical knowledge and expertise necessary to ensure the success and efficiency of these key elements within the CORALIS project.
