IEC 61850 course: the communication standard being adopted by all stakeholders in the electric sector

CIRCE launches the sixth edition of Spain's most comprehensive course on the IEC 61850 standard, focused on communications for substations and applicable to Smart Grids, electric vehicles, and renewable energies.

UPDATE 2024: Access online to the new IEC 61850 Standard Course.

News date 08/03/2019:

The IEC 61850 standard is now considered the established communication standard in the global market for substation automation. This protocol is presented as a unified solution to ensure interoperability between different manufacturers, leading to improved automation of the electrical grid and energy supply. Its advantages make it one of the key standards in the Smart Grid model, extending beyond its original scope.

For several years, CIRCE has been offering a specialized course on the IEC 61850 standard to meet the current needs of companies and address the evolution of grid automation through the incorporation of information and communication technologies. This year, CIRCE has launched the 6th edition of the course "Communications for Control and Protection Systems of Electrical Substations, Smart Grid, Electric Vehicle, and Renewable Energies: IEC 61850 Standard", which each year generates increasing interest among companies and electrical professionals, not only in Spain but also in Europe and Latin America.

The course contributes to the training and specialization of professionals who wish to expand their knowledge in substation automation systems and new communication technologies, sectors that continue to experience continuous growth. The program is one of the few in Spain that delves into the details of the standard, both from a theoretical and practical perspective. Moreover, its 125-hour duration makes it the most comprehensive course in Spain on this subject, covering all details about the standard, the benefits for companies, new configurations and architectures, the design of control operations in IEC 61850, and its application in other areas beyond substations.

Its content is backed by CIRCE’s experience in real projects and includes expert researchers who will provide continuous support and supervision to the students. To facilitate access for professionals and students, the course is offered online, with recorded classes that students can access at any time. The 6th edition of the course will begin on April 24th, with special rates available for university students, unemployed individuals, or groups of workers. More information and registration are available on the CIRCE website.
